Welcome to Habs Hockey-Talkey!

Hey everyone!

Sal here, welcoming you to the all new "Habs Hockey-Talkey" blog. The purpose of this blog is for me to vent my frustrations, or, rarely of late, express my excitement over the recent play of our beloved bleu-blanc et -rouge, the Habs.

I will also try to comment on other matters surrounding the NHL, such as reactions to recent events (i.e. suspensions) and trade rumours involving any team...However, this blog will mostly serve material related to the Canadiens.

Feel free to comment (positively or negatively) to any of my opinions in future posts.

Pat, I honestly believe that not just most players on this team have problems scoring, but ALL players on this team have problems scoring. Not only do I agree with your statement that having 51 others players before our own top scorer indicates a major problem, but I must say, we probably shouldn't even have one that high, and if we should, it shouldn't be Kovalev...let me explain...

Kovalev is regarded as a 2nd liner in Montreal. His ice time has been diminishing year after year, as has his production, and it is due to his age. Being his age, his speed is in a downward spirial (even though he remains one of the most beautiful skaters in the game), as are his motivation and hunger for goal scoring. It's only normal, every aging forward goes through it, minus the exceptions of the Gretzky's and Lemieux's of the world. The point is that we should be getting contribution from the guys we place on that first line, mainly, Koivu, Higgins, and of COURSE, good ol' Michael Ryder. These are the guys, if ANY, that should be at that 52nd spot, not Alex Kovalev. I'm very happy for Kovy, don't get me wrong. We are seeing a sort of rejuvination in him this year. Unfortunately, the rest of the team is forgetting to show up on a game-to-game basis, and his efforts are going wasted. Having him lead us in scoring is saying something about the problems we have with our 1st line, and the statement is being heard by fans everywhere: WE NEED A 1st LINE!
