Roy's #33 Will Be Retired Nov. 22nd

The Montreal Canadiens have announced the retirement of Patrick Roy's #33 jersey, set to take place on November 22nd, vs. the Boston Bruins. 11th month, 22nd day: 11+22=33. That's the significance...

Roy becomes the third goalie in Canadiens history to have his number retired. The other two: Jacques Plante's #1, and Ken Dryden's #29.

Roy stated that he hopes this entire event can serve as "a turning of the page", referring to the tumultuous final game on December 2nd, 1995.

Roy on Montreal: "This is where I learned to be a winner."

"I was looking forward to this day."

Also announced during the press conference was the creation of the Ring of Honor: A ring at the Bell Centre honoring the 44 greatest players in Canadiens' history, those of whom are in the Hall of Fame, as well as the 10 most important builders. The Ring of Honor will serve as "a source of inspiration for the players, as well as a source of pride for the fans who visit the Bell Centre", says team president Pierre Boivin.
