Caps Retain Fedorov; Emery Off To Russia, Peca Staying Put

The Washington Capitals re-signed 37 year old veteran Sergei Fedorov to a one-year, $4 million contract. Fedorov was acquired by the Caps at the trading deadline from Columbus; he helped Washington to its improbable playoff appearance.

Ray Emery has signed as well, however, not in the NHL.

Emery signed a one-year deal with Atlant Mytishchi of the new Russian Continental Hockey League. The deal, according to TSN, is reportedly worth in excess of $2 million plus bonuses.

Mike Peca has re-signed with his club, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Peca signed a one-year, $1.315 million deal.

In other news:

  • Caps re-sign RFA Brooks Laich - three-years, $6.1 million.
  • Thrashers re-sign Eric Boulton.
  • Maple Leafs reportedly on the verge of signing Swedish defenseman Jonas Frogren of Farjestad. Frogren, 27, had just one point and 38 PIM in 47 games last season and is reputed to be a stay-at-home-type defencemen. Frogren was initially an eighth-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames in 1998.
