Steven Stamkos has signed a standard, league-maximum $875 000, 3-year entry level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Stamkos can also earn as much $8.55-million in performance bonuses over the life of the contract.
Stamkos, 18, was the 1st overall pick in last June's entry draft. In the OHL, Stamkos tallied 100 goals and 197 points in 124 games for the Sarnia Sting. The Markham, Ontario native is currently participating in the Lightning's prospect-development camp in Victoria, B.C. Stamkos is expected to start the season in Tampa on the second line.
