RFA Valtteri Filppula is RFA no more.
The Wings locked up a core piece of their future today, signing the centerman to a 5-year, $15 million deal.
Filppula, 24, played a big role in Detroit's cup quest, and scored 19 goals and 17 assists in 78 games last season.
He was a 3rd round selection of the wings back in 2002, displaying Detroit's drafting-savvy once again as they have a reputation to draft gems in later rounds.
Oh, and Filppula has one of the best names in hockey, so that's a plus as well.
